A Little Lobby Love // Over-sized Abstract Oil-Painting

ARTWORK DETAILS

AMAZON ABSTRACT BLUE GREEN – LARGE TEXTURED STROKES OF OIL PAINT 55′ BY 78′ ($368), CANVAS FRAMED STRETCHED CANVAS SERVICES ($220)

Just a little post about the oversized canvas I helped pick out for this condo lobby area for FirstServices in Toronto.

For every decor project I start, I always begin with the space’s intended use. This little area behind the front desk was originally designed for a television display as you will see in the photo below, there was a plug and an outlet there.

Potential Uses

Typically behind front desks, companies display their company names or logos. Other uses for this area in the lobby include displaying a clock or visual interest with varying heights of vases, sculptures or statues.

We decided to go with an over-sized abstract artwork for this area to greet and welcome all the residents as they arrive home after a long day at work. Since the area is quite dark with the brown cabinets, I suggested some lighter paintings, particular with green or blue accents to introduce a calming ambiance into the space.
Oversized Oil Painting

After shopping around at a few places like Urban Barn, Structube and Costco, the one we ended up with is from Amazon.ca ordered from a place called Fchen Art located in Hong Kong in a 55′ by 78′ size. This is particularly a large size and many art works around this size are priced over $500.
What I like about this piece of artwork is that is hand-painted oil on canvas and you can clearly see all the brushstrokes, textures and layers. What you will want to know is that because this canvas is being shipped in tube containers from Hong Kong, there is no canvas frame provided with it.
Canvas Stretching Services
Luckily I found a professional canvas stretching service at a reasonable cost ($220) nearby to help stretch the canvas onto a gallery frame (1.5 inch thick). I was definitely not up for that kind of a DIY. Most art stores were pricing me around $350 to $600 since the canvas was over-sized.
